煤炭是一種基本的資源，可以通過多種途徑獲得。主要來源有岩石、礦井中的沙塵惡靈、從鐵匠鋪購買或煤炭窯。煤炭也有可能通過回收垃圾或釣魚寶箱中得到。

煤炭用於一些打造配方，也是在熔爐中冶煉金屬錠或精鍊石英的必要材料。

位置

煤炭有時候會出現在岩石里，包括礦井和地圖其他地方。運氣值會影響找到煤炭的概率。
在礦井中的某些特定的層，礦車上會有煤炭。跟着鐵軌走，找到裝了煤炭的礦車，右鍵點擊就可以得到煤炭。有的礦車也會是空的。
在礦井中的某些特定的層，煤炭可以從地上的棕色礦工袋子裡找到。每個袋子有8個煤炭。
煤炭窯可將10個木頭轉化為1個煤炭。
你可以通過擊殺礦井41-79層中的沙塵惡靈來得到煤炭。使用電梯可以反覆到達這個區域。同時這也是獲取鐵礦石的方法。
- 更高效獲取鐵礦石和煤炭的方法是從礦井50層開始，51層很可能同時有沙塵惡靈和鐵礦石，52層是一個狹長的區域，終點一定會有階梯，如果碰上那天了，53層會是充滿沙塵惡靈的感染層，擊殺這些煤炭來源後會得到一個向下的階梯，你可以到54層去獲取更多鐵礦石。重複以上步驟即可。
- 如果是為煤炭而去擊殺沙塵惡靈，最好戴上由擊殺沙塵惡靈得到的竊賊戒指。
黑色/變種史萊姆會掉落煤炭。它們可以在史萊姆屋中飼養。
礦井中30-39層的石魔和80-119層的金屬大頭可能會掉落煤炭。

從鐵匠鋪購買煤炭需要花費data-sort-value="150">150金。但是從木匠的商店購買10個木頭並用煤炭窯轉化為煤炭會更便宜（花費data-sort-value="100">100金）。
